Student Recruitment Activities

The Ohio State University Alumni Association has 204 alumni clubs around the world. At the center of each successful club is a solid student recruitment program. This network of recruiters has contributed significantly to Ohio State's climb in academic rating over the past several years.

The purpose of the alumni student recruitment program of The Ohio State University is to extend the reach of the Admissions Office through the volunteer recruitment efforts of well-trained and knowledgeable alumni across the U.S. and internationally.

The Stark County Alumni Club participates in a number of student recruitment activities each year. Among these are:

College Fair
The Stark County College Fair held annually at the Civic Auditorium is an opportunity for local high school students to visit with representatives from a large number of colleges and universities. The Ohio State University sends the admissions counselor assigned to the area and representatives from other areas of interest who are in the vicinity, and the Stark County Alumni Club sends our Student Recruitment Chairman to help out when asked.
Alumni Scholars Program
The university grants one $600 scholarship for each 2000 alumni living in the county. At this time, Stark County has roughly 4,300 alumni and receives two alumni scholars scholarships. The club has the opportunity, through various fund raising activities, to increase these scholarships to whatever level we may reach for the year.
Student Retention Incentive Program
This outreach program is designed to welcome students to the Ohio State family and convert admitted students to enrolled students through personal alumni contact. Local club members write and call these students congratulating them on their high achievement, and encourage them to apply for admission.
Great Decisions Night
The Stark County Alumni Club carries the Student Retention program one step further, inviting those students who may be undecided about Ohio State to an evening reception where their questions can be answered by trained local alumni and, perhaps, admissions counselors and current students and parents.
Student Outreach Program
Every October the club receives the names of high school seniors in the area who achieved high scores on the PSAT examination and indicated an interest in Ohio State. Alumni contact these students to answer questions about Ohio State, congratulate them on their high test score, and encourage them to apply for admission. Sometimes this program includes putting the interested student in touch with a local alumnus working in that student's area of interest.
Guidance Counselors' Breakfast
In conjunction with the Admissions Office, the Stark County club hosts a local breakfast reception for guidance counselors from Stark County's 20 high schools. Admissions representatives provide university updates, information on club recruitment activities, and the opportunity to meet with the Ohio State Admissions Counselor assigned to their school.
Campus Visits
One of the best ways for a student to make a decision about their future college choice is to visit the campus. We strongly encourage each prospective student to visit the campus on an official campus visit. Students interested in visiting The Ohio State University should contact our student recruitment chairman, Carol Kinsey at cskinsey@aol.com, 330.879.2417.
Information
The guidance office at each of Stark County's twenty high schools has information on The Ohio State University. This information should include a course offerings bulletin, information on majors available at Ohio State, and a video published by the university showing some of the facilities and discussing some of the resources available at Ohio State. If this information is not sufficient for a student's particular needs, simply e-mail or phone our Student Recruitment Chairperson, Carol Kinsey at cskinsey@aol.com, 330.879.2417.
Other Buckeye Web Sites
There are a large number of Buckeye related web sites out there. We have links to some of the more interesting ones on our "Related Links" page. Of particular interest may be a Campus Map, the Official Ohio State Web Page, the Ohio State student newspaper - The Lantern, the OSU Sports Page, and the University Registrar page.
